About the Opportunity Associate Teachers have a unique opportunity to integrate with the Democracy Prep community and acquire the skills necessary to be effective teachers in urban classrooms. This position is geared toward candidates who are interested in teaching but do not have any formal teaching preparation or certification. Associate teachers observe classes, serve as substitute teachers and teaching assistants, and receive the same professional development opportunities as our Lead Teachers. Those who are successful as Associate Teacher are offered Lead Teacher positions by the end of their second year. Teaching Cover classes in Lead Teachers absence Assist with in-class instruction Use consistent school-wide practices and individualized methods to engage students in the classroom. Classroom Management Create, monitor, and sustain a disciplined school culture of high academic and behavioral standards. Provide structure in the classroom by developing and reinforcing school-wide rules and expectations. Ensure smooth operation of all classroom instructional functions without excuses or exceptions. Data Analysis Evaluate academic achievement through detailed data analysis of student performance. Student Support and School Culture Communicate effectively and maintain strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues. Develop and maintain positive, strong classroom culture.
